ACHIEVEMENTS AND SUCCESS STORIES OF THE DEPARTMENT

v     There are 375 Vocational Higher Secondary schools in the state imparting instruction in 42 disciplines. There are 1000 batches
    offering Vocational Higher Secondary Education at 10 + 2 level for 66000 students.

v     As 42 of the vocational courses are approved as Designated subject trades under the ambit of the Apprenticeship amendment
    act 1986, students can attend apprenticeship training at various institutions like industrial establishments, banks, co-operatives
    etc and get ‘CERTIFICATE OF PROFICIENCY’ from the Board of Apprenticeship Training, (Southern Region) Chennai, under the
    Government of India.

v     Many Indian Universities have recognized the Vocational Higher Secondary Courses.

v     Steps initiated for recognition of Vocational Higher Secondary Courses by all Universities in India.

v     Pharmacy Council of India have also approved the Paramedical courses conducted by the Department.

v     There is 2% seat reservation to vocational pass-outs (Engineering discipline) while admission to diploma courses.

v     Twelve courses conducted by this Directorate have already been approved by the Kerala PSC as the basic qualification for
    various posts. The Directorate had taken steps to identify more avenues in various departments in order to make desirable
    modification in the recruitment rules with the involvement of PSC.

v     Special rules for VHSE was implemented from 12/3/2004.

v     All the courses were approved by the PSC for posts of Lab Assistants in VHSE.

v     Curriculum committee for Vocational Higher Secondary Education has been reconstituted.

v     State Council for Vocational Education has been reconstituted.

v     SAY Scheme was implemented, from March 2002 for Vocational Higher Secondary Education students who failed for one
        subject.

v     Improvement scheme implemented from this year onward.

v     Gold medal award distributed to three top ranks of each group of Vocational Higher Secondary Courses from last year onwards.

v     One seat reserved for Kala Prathibha and Kala Thilakam of Vocational Higher Secondary Education youth festival for entrance
      examination according to the rules prescribed by Entrance commissioner.

v     The Vocational Higher Secondary Course with non-vocational subjects was made equivalent to the two year Higher Secondary
      Course at Plus two level.

v     Kannur University approved the Vocational Higher Secondary Education courses last year.

v     The syllabi of all Vocational Subjects were revised and the modified syllabi introduced from the academic year 2003-2004
      onwards.

v     Library books were supplied to all government Vocational Higher Secondary Schools.

v     1024 computers were supplied to Government Vocational Higher Secondary Schools with commerce and computer based
      courses.

v     Funds were provided to all Government schools for modernization of laboratories.

v   State level Appreciation for best NSS Cell for the year 2000 was received by Vocational Higher Secondary Section Education

v     State level Award for best NSS unit and best Programmes Officer award for the year 2002-2003 were received by JDT Islam
      Vocational Higher Secondary School, Calicut.

v     State Level Award for best NSS Cell and best Programmes Co-ordinator Award for the year 2003-2004 was received by    
     Vocational Higher Secondary Education Department

v     NSS Programme Co-ordiantor Dr. L. Thulaseedharan Got Special  Appreciation from the State Government for his Leadership in
     Tsunami Relief Activities done by the NSS units of Vocational Higher Secondary School for the year 2004-2005.

v     Rahmaniya VHS School, Calicut & REC Govt. VHS School achieved State Level Best NSS units awards for the year 2003-2004
     & 2004-2005 Respectively.

v     MMO VHS School, Panayappilly got State Level best NSS unit award for the year 2005-2006.
